The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is exploring alternatives for increasing its supply of reliable water. The RiverWare planning model was enhanced to model off-channel storage in the lower river to capture non-forecasted inflow events and water that was ordered but not diverted by the irrigation divisions that receive deliveries from the Highland Lakes. The model can be used to evaluate the benefits, in terms of increased irrigation supply and increased levels in the Highland Lakes, provided by off channel storage reservoir varying sizes, locations, and delivery capacities.
